The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET UG) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission into undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and other allied health science courses (such as AYUSH and veterinary) in various medical institutions across India. Why NEET UG 2024 is Important?

NEET UG is mandatory for admission into all medical and dental colleges in India, including prestigious institutions like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER). It serves as a gateway for students seeking admission to undergraduate medical courses in government and private institutions across India. Exam Structure and Pattern

NEET UG is a pen-and-paper-based test that assesses a candidate's knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a focus on concepts and problem-solving abilities.

  1. Mode of Exam: Offline (Pen and Paper-based Test)

  2. Number of Questions: 200 questions (180 to be attempted)

  3. Duration: 3 hours and 20 minutes

  4. Subjects and Question Distribution:

    • Physics: 50 questions (45 to be attempted)

    • Chemistry: 50 questions (45 to be attempted)

    • Biology (Botany and Zoology): 100 questions (90 to be attempted)

  5. Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

  6. Marking Scheme:

    • +4 marks for each correct answer

    • -1 mark for each incorrect answer

    • No marks for unanswered questions


Eligibility Criteria for NEET UG 2024


  1. Educational Qualification:

    • Candidates must have passed or be appearing for the Class 12 examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.

    • They must have secured a minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology (40% for reserved category candidates, 45% for PwD candidates).

  2. Age Limit:

    • The minimum age required is 17 years as of December 31 of the year of admission.

    • There is no upper age limit for appearing in NEET UG as per the latest guidelines.

  3. Nationality: Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and Foreign Nationals are eligible to apply.

  • Start of Online Registration: December 2023

  • Admit Card Release: April 2024

How to Apply for NEET UG 2024

  1. Registration: Visit the official NTA NEET website and register by providing basic details such as name, date of birth, email ID, and mobile number.

  2. Filling the Application Form: Log in with the registered credentials and fill in personal, academic, and contact information.

  3. Upload Documents: Upload scanned images of your photograph, signature, left-hand thumb impression, and other required documents as per the specified guidelines.

  4. Application Fee: Pay the application fee online using credit/debit cards, net banking, UPI, or through an e-wallet.

  5. Confirmation: After successful submission of the application form and fee payment, download and save the confirmation page for future reference.


Preparation Tips for NEET UG 2024

  1. Understand the Syllabus: Familiarize yourself with the NEET UG syllabus, which is based on the NCERT curriculum for Class 11 and 12. Focus on covering all the topics thoroughly in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

  2. Create a Study Plan: Develop a realistic and effective study schedule that allocates adequate time to each subject. Include time for regular revision and practice.
